Beginning late the
night of July 17, 2001, a stalled front produced heavy thunderstorms
that raced successively from northwest to southeast across Butler
County. A narrow band from Milford Township southeast through
Liberty and West Chester Townships received up to eight inches
of rain within a three to four hour period. Flash flooding from
the storms caused millions of dollars in damage and several deaths
in southwest Ohio, triggering the declaration of a federal disaster.
Below are some photos
of road, bridge, culvert, and property damage that resulted from
that night's deluge.
