Heavy rains from slow-moving
thunderstorms on June 15, 2003 produced flash flooding in Butler
County, causing extensive property damage as well as damage to
roads and culverts. Several culverts were washed out resulting
in road closures. Bridges were inspected closely following the
storms, and while no damage was reported, significant amounts
of debris had to be cleared from around bridge piers. Areas hardest
hit by the flooding were Milford, Hanover, and St. Clair Townships,
the Village of New Miami, and the City of Fairfield. Nearly six
inches of rain fell within a few hours in some locations.
While not as severe
or as extensive as the flash floods that struck Butler County
July 17-18, 2001 (see story and
damage photos), damage to roads and culverts will place an
additional funding burden on the BCEO this year. What follows
are some photos of the flood damage and debris.
