A contract for two
bridge replacements will get under way this fall, according to
Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens. Bridges on Oxford Middletown
Road in Wayne Township and California Road in Morgan Township
will be replaced utilizing funds from the OPWC's (Ohio Public
Works Commission) State Issue 2 grant program.
Work will begin first
on the Oxford Middletown Road bridge, which crosses a branch
of Nine Mile Creek. The existing structure is a narrow, concrete
slab bridge built in 1900 and will be replaced by a nine-foot
corrugated culvert pipe. Construction is expected to take approximately
four to five weeks, after which crews will begin replacement
of the California Road bridge, located just south of Ohio 129
over Kiata Creek. The current steel beam structure built in 1969
will be replaced with a 16-foot conspan.
The contract for both
projects was awarded to W. G. Stang, Inc., of St. Clair Township,
which submitted a low bid of $221,835. The Butler County Engineer's
Office secured State Issue 2 funds to help pay for half of the
project's cost; the remaining local match amount will consist
of BCEO money.
Oxford Middletown
Road Closing
Replacement of the
Oxford Middletown Road bridge will begin October 21, 2002. The
road will close 0.7 mile east of Wayne Milford Road and 0.1 mile
west of Waynes Trace Road. The project is tentatively scheduled
for completion the week of November 18, 2002.
During construction,
eastbound Oxford Middletown Road traffic will detour south on
Wayne Milford Road, east on Tolbert Road, and north on Waynes
Trace. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.
