Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that a contract for three bridge replacements
gets under way this week as crews begin work on Howe Road in
Madison Township. Located just west of Eck Road, an old steel-beam
bridge built in 1928 will be replaced with a new pre-cast concrete
slab beam structure. The project is expected to be completed
in July. Also slated for replacement are bridges on Schradin
Road in Morgan Township and Stahlheber Road in Hanover Township.
A contract for all
three projects was awarded to SK Construction of Middletown which
submitted a low bid of $815,204. All work is scheduled for completion
by this fall. The bridges will be replaced utilizing funds from
the State's OPWC (Ohio Public Works Commission) Issue 2 grant
program, which will cover 65 percent of the cost. The remaining
local match amount will consist of BCEO money.
The Engineer's Office
has scheduled a total of 11 bridge replacements for 2004 utilizing
several different funding sources, including Federal LBR funds
as well as local Force Account money. For a complete overview
of this year's proposed capital improvements, please see the
