The Butler County Engineer's
Office reports that the Princeton Road widening project in Fairfield
Township is progressing smoothly with major construction scheduled
to be completed by the end of the month. Plans originally called
for the road to be reopened during the second week of September
while crews continued to work under traffic. In an effort to
complete the entire project as quickly and safely as possible,
the road will remain closed through October 1, 2004.
"This will allow
the overall project to be completed sooner," said Denny
Krall, BCEO Engineering Deputy. "But even more importantly,
it will allow construction crews to work under safer conditions
and will be much safer for motorists who won't have to dodge
construction equipment. Under this plan, once the road reopens
the entire project will be complete, with the exception of some
minor off road work such as grading and seeding." Krall
also emphasized that work inside the new Bridgewater Falls development
will still be under way.
Princeton Road is being
widened from two to five lanes in conjunction with the new shopping
complex which includes several major new stores, including Target
and a possible movie theater. All concrete work along Princeton
is now complete, including sidewalk installations and curb and
gutter. Crews are currently applying the leveling course of asphalt
from Bypass 4 to Morris Road. Signals and loop detectors will
be installed with final paving and striping slated for the week
of September 20. "We will then be able to get the construction
crews out of the roadway before the first store opens in Bridgewater
Falls," Krall added. "We're very concerned about the
safety of the crews and the traveling public. The new shopping
complex will generate a lot of traffic." Target is scheduled
for a grand opening on October 10, with a soft opening on October
6.
The Princeton Road
improvements are being performed by Don S. Cisle Contractor,
Inc. of Hamilton, which submitted a low bid of $3,563,805.75.
One-hundred percent of the project funding consists of a Fairfield
Township TIF (Tax Increment Financing).
