The Butler County Engineer's
Office will begin a series of culvert replacements on California
Road in Morgan Township beginning Monday, May 16, 2005. A total
of ten culverts will be replaced with work on each culvert lasting
approximately one to three weeks. The culvert replacements will
be performed in succession from south to north and will occur
one at a time, not simultaneously. The first three culverts are
in the general area of Schoenling Road and the remaining seven
culverts are located north of Okeana Drewersburg Road. Click

for a printable map of the approximate locations and project
order of all ten culvert replacements. Work on the final culvert
is tentatively slated to be completed by mid- to late August
2005.
Each culvert project
will require closing the road at that location. During these
closures local access will be maintained from either the north
or south side of each culvert project. While official detours
will be posted for all through traffic, it is anticipated that
local residents and motorists will find the routes that work
best for them.
These projects are
necessary to replace aging and deteriorating structures in an
effort to prevent potential future structural failure and maintain
proper drainage and water flow. It is also necessary to address
these culverts now prior to a full resurfacing of California
Road late this summer or early fall. All ten culvert replacements
are being performed exclusively by crews from the Butler County
Engineer's Office. Funding for the projects consists of 100 percent
local BCEO Force Account money.
First Culvert
Closing May 16
The first culvert closure
will begin Monday, May 16, 2005 and is located 300 feet north
of the Hamilton County line, or 0.4 mile north of Lee's Creek
Road in Hamilton County, and 300 feet south of Schoenling Road.
Work on this culvert is tentatively scheduled for completion
the week of May 30, 2005 at which time crews will move north
to the next culvert. A map showing the approximate locations
and project order of all ten culvert replacements can be viewed

Motorists are strongly
encouraged to check the Road Closings

information about these projects and possible date and status
changes.
