Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that a traffic signal control cabinet at
the intersection of Tylersville Road and VOA Park Drive was struck
by a car during yesterday's snowy weather. The accident occurred
around 8:00 p.m. during a heavy burst of snow. While there were
no injuries, the cabinet was permanently destroyed.
A signal control cabinet
is the "brains" of a traffic signal and contains the
signal controller, detector units, conflict monitor, load switches,
and wiring that runs the operation of the traffic signal.
Until the entire cabinet
can be replaced, operation of the signal at Tylersville and VOA
Park (which is opposite to the entrance to Kohl's) may not run
efficiently since it will not be in connection with the closed-loop
signal system installed along Tylersville Road. Costs for new
equipment are estimated at over $15,000 and could take several
weeks to get installed and running properly.
