Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that construction is slated to begin this
month on a major safety improvement to Stillwell Beckett Road
at Woods Station Road. The project will straighten Stillwell
Beckett to eliminate three sharp curves at and approaching the
intersection with Woods Station and North Pierson Roads. As part
of the project, Woods Station will be shifted slightly to conform
with the newly realigned Stillwell Beckett, which will also see
the addition of a left turn lane. The upgraded configuration
will be much safer since the hazardous curves will be straightened
and the intersection will be modified into a more traditional
"T" type intersection.

The construction contract
for the project was awarded to W.G. Stang, LLC of Hamilton which
submitted a low bid of $575,508. State OPWC funds will be utilized
by the Butler County Engineer's Office to help pay for 78 percent
of the project's cost. The remaining local match amount consists
of BCEO funds.
Crews will begin work
April 10 at which time it will be necessary to close both Stillwell
Beckett and Woods Station Roads. Weather permitting, the project
should be completed by mid-June, according to Wilkens.
Road Closing
Info
Stillwell Beckett Road
in Reily Township will close 0.2 mile southeast of North Law
Road and 0.4 mile northwest of Decamp Road beginning Monday,
April 10, 2006 in conjunction with the above mentioned project.
The entire length of Woods Station Road will also close. While
each road will be closed to through traffic, local access will
be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles via Stillwell
Beckett. Woods Station however will be completely closed and
inaccesible to all traffic. This means that access to North Pierson
Road will be available only from the Stillwell Beckett side.
All roads are tentatively
scheduled to reopen the week of June 19, 2006.
Detour: Southeastbound Stillwell Beckett
Road traffic will detour south on Ohio 732, southeast on Reily
Millville Road, and north on U.S. 27. Northwestbound traffic
will reverse this route. Woods Station Road traffic should use
the same detour.
