Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that Cincinnati Dayton Road in Liberty Township
will open between Princeton Road and Millikin Road on Friday,
June 30, 2006. This is a month ahead of schedule thanks to a
diligent effort by the contractor and the BCEO Construction Department,
according to Wilkens. "This will allow us to proceed with
the next phase of the project even sooner than anticipated,"
he noted. "At this rate, and if the weather cooperates,
we should be able to get most of the closure behind us before
we get into the upcoming school year."
The Butler County Engineer's
Office is constructing major safety improvements to the narrow,
heavily-traveled portion of Cincinnati Dayton Road between Liberty
One Drive and Millikin Road -- an approximate two-mile stretch.
The road will be widened to three lanes with the addition of
a center turn lane, several small hills will be cut down, intersections
will be improved, traffic signals upgraded, and curb and gutter
will be added through the Bethany area. Additional work will
include the replacement of a bridge and several culverts, the
installation of a new storm sewer system, and almost $1 million
in water line reconstruction.
The $4.2 million dollar
construction project is slated for completion in the summer of
2007.

The Cincinnati Dayton
Road closing will shift to the south as crews move to the next
major phase. The road will open between Princeton Road and Millikin
Road on June 30, 2006. The entire project area will be open to
through traffic during the 4th of July holiday period.
Cincinnati Dayton Road
will then close on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 south of Princeton
Road and north of Bethany Road. The road will be closed to through
traffic but local access will be maintained for all residents
and businesses as well as emergency vehicles.
This closure is necessary
for a bridge replacement in conjunction with the overall road
improvement. Local motorists requiring access to addresses 6415
and north will need to enter from the Princeton Road side. Motorists
accessing addresses 6429 and south will enter from the Bethany
Road side during this closure.
This section of Cincinnati
Dayton Road is tentatively scheduled to reopen by August 18,
2006, weather permitting. Additional closures are possible with
this project. The BCEO will issue further news releases and postings
on our web site to announce these closures should they occur.
Detour: Northbound Cincinnati Dayton
Road traffic will detour west and north on Yankee Road and east
on Princeton Road. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.
