Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens has been elected to the position of President of
the ASHE Triko Valley Section, the regional Tri-State chapter
of the American Society of Highway Engineers. He will serve in
the position for one year.
The American
Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) is a national organization
that supports education, innovation, and fellowship among members
and partners of the highway industry. Its goal is to promote
a safe and efficient highway system for mobility now and in the
future. The local Triko Valley Section of ASHE is comprised
of engineers, contractors, and suppliers and has about 140 members.
"I am honored
to be elected to this position and have the opportunity to serve
with some of the industry's top leaders," Wilkens said.
"The camaraderie in this group is really unique and provides
an effective way of blending different perspectives to better
serve the traveling public and building safer roads."
The ASHE Triko Valley Section also provides scholarships
to local college students who are seeking careers in the engineering
and construction industry. "Through this we hope to stimulate
young people with an interest to pursue careers in the highway
business," said Wilkens.
Some of his goals for
the upcoming year are to increase scholarship amounts and section
membership, and to promote innovation in highway funding, particularly
with regards to Ohio highway funds. "Money continues to
be one of the biggest issues when it comes to building highways
and making road improvements," according to Wilkens. "Without
adequate funding it will be difficult to meet current and future
traffic demands and keep our roads safe."
