Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that construction will begin next week on
roadway improvements to Gilmore Road in Fairfield Township. The
$1.2 million project will widen the road from two to three lanes
between the Ohio 129 overpass and Princeton Road. Curb and gutter
as well as sidewalks will be added along the entire length of
the project. Plans also call for turn lanes at the Princeton
Road intersection and replacement of a box culvert.
Wilkens noted that
this project is technically the first phase of an even bigger
project scheduled for 2008 which involves widening Princeton
Road from Bypass 4 to west of Walden Ponds Circle. "Retail
growth and development along the Princeton Road corridor is driving
the need for additional capacity and safer traffic flow into
and out of these new businesses," he said. "We've worked
closely with Fairfield Township to develop this two-phase solution
and establish a local funding source."
The construction contract
for the Gilmore Road project was awarded to Don S. Cisle Contractor,
Inc. of Hamilton which submitted a low bid of $1,200,631. Fairfield
Township TIF funds will be utilized to pay for 100 percent of
the construction cost.
Crews will begin preliminary
work next week with full construction getting under way on September
17 at which time it will be necessary to close Gilmore Road.
Weather permitting, the project should be completed by mid-December,
according to Wilkens.
Road Closing
and Maintenance of Traffic
Gilmore Road in Fairfield
Township will close 0.5 mile north of Hamilton Mason Road and
ten feet south of Princeton Road beginning Monday, September
17, 2007. This is roughly between the Ohio 129 overpass and Princeton
Road.
While the road will
be closed to all through traffic, local access will be maintained
for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles only from the
south side (Hamilton Mason Road). There will be no local access
from Princeton Road.
Gilmore Road is tentatively
scheduled to reopen the week of December 17, 2007.
Detour: Northbound Gilmore Road traffic
will detour east on Hamilton Mason Road, north on Bypass 4, and
west on Princeton Road. Southbound traffic will reverse this
route.
