A project begun late
last fall gets into full swing next week when Hamilton Mason
Road closes between Mauds Hughes Road and Cincinnati Dayton Road.
A $2.4 million upgrade is under way to widen a 0.6 mile stretch
of the road from Cincinnati Dayton Road west to near the Norfolk
& Southern Railroad overpass.
Specifically, plans
call for widening Hamilton Mason Road to five lanes from Cincinnati
Dayton Road west for 0.4 mile. The road will taper to three lanes
for another 0.2 mile where it tapers back to two lanes just east
of the railroad overpass. There will be major adjustments to
the vertical alignment, thus eliminating several small hills
that currently cause sight distance issues.
The project also includes
installation of all new sanitary sewer and water mains, two new
culverts, curb and gutter, and sidewalk along the entire length
on the north side. Signals will be added for safer access to
a new commercial and light industrial complex developing on the
north side of the road.
Work got started on
the project last November and the road was closed briefly earlier
this year for sanitary sewer installations. The upcoming closure
will be in effect for approximately seven to eight weeks to enable
crews to install new culvert pipes across the road and perform
grading and dirt work for the additional lanes and to eliminate
the problematic hills.
A construction contract
for the project was awarded to Mt. Pleasant Blacktopping of Fairfield
which submitted a low bid of $2,470,346. All work is slated for
completion by late July 2008, weather permitting.
Road Closing
and Maintenance of Traffic
Hamilton Mason Road
will close 0.3 mile east of Mauds Hughes Road and 100 feet west
of Cincinnati Dayton Road beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2008. During
this closure, local access will be maintained to residents and
businesses, although access may be restricted to either the east
or west side depending upon one's location relative to the work
being performed. Detours will be posted for all thru traffic.
The road is tentatively
scheduled to reopen the week of July 14, 2008.
Detour: Eastbound Hamilton Mason Road
traffic will detour north on Ohio 747, east on Ohio 129, and
south on Cincinnati Dayton Road. Westbound traffic will reverse
this route.
Motorists are encouraged
to check the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date
and status changes concerning this closure.
