Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that roadway improvements will begin this
week on Tylersville Road in West Chester Township. The project
involves adding a center turn lane from Chesterwood Boulevard
to Butler Warren Road, thus expanding the road from its current
four-lane configuration to five -- two eastbound and two westbound
lanes with a center turn lane.
The center turn lane
addition will allow for safer left turn movements by creating
a storage area for left turning traffic. It will also create
a safety zone of separation between opposing lanes of traffic
on this heavily traveled stretch of Tylersville Road.
Crews will widen the
roadway by adding pavement along the north edge with final striping
to reflect the new five-lane configuration. Two lanes of traffic
will be maintained both eastbound and westbound throughout most
of the project's duration; however, motorists may encounter occasional
single lane closures during off peak hours. There may also be
some minor lane shifts during final paving and striping. Construction
is slated for completion by the end of November, weather permitting.
A contract for the
project was awarded to the John R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati
which submitted a low bid of $543,917. The BCEO leveraged State
OPWC funds to pay for 87 percent of the construction cost. The
remaining local match will come from local BCEO funds.
