Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that roadway improvements to Beissinger
Road are slated to get under way August 17, 2009. Construction
will be in two phases. The first involves widening the Beissinger
/ Eaton Road intersection and replacing a culvert across Eaton
Road. Once this phase is complete, crews will work to ease the
hazardous S-curves on Beissinger west of Eaton. Approximately
1,435 feet of roadway will undergo a horizontal and vertical
realignment, according to Wilkens. This phase of the project
also includes widening the shoulders, two culvert removals and
one replacement, and making drainage improvements.
A construction contract
for the project was awarded to Broshear Construction of Ross
Township which submitted a low bid of $602,644. State OPWC funds
and local BCEO funds will be utilized to pay for the project.
All work is scheduled
for completion by mid-December 2009, weather permitting.
Road Closure
Phasing and Maintenance of Traffic
There will be two road
closings associated with this project. The phasing will be as
follows:
CLOSING 1 -- Starting August 17, 2009,
the south leg of Eaton Road will close at the Beissinger / Eaton
Road intersection. This closure is necessary for a culvert installation.
The north, west, and east legs will remain open; however, crews
will be working in the intersection and motorists may encounter
occasional short delays. The south leg of Eaton Road is tentatively
scheduled to reopen the first week of September at which time
construction crews will move to Beissinger Road just west of
Eaton.
Detour: Northbound Eaton Road / Eaton
Avenue traffic will detour west on Washington Boulevard, northwest
on Ohio 177 (Main Street / Hamilton Richmond Road), and east
on Beissinger Road. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.
CLOSING 2 -- Beissinger Road west of
Eaton Road will close after the south leg of Eaton is reopened.
This closure is expected to remain in effect until the week of
December 14, 2009. Detours will be posted for all thru traffic
but local access will be maintained for residents, businesses,
and emergency vehicles; however, local access will be limited
to either the west or east side of the culverts when they are
being replaced, depending upon one's location.
Detour: Eastbound Beissinger Road traffic
will detour southeast on Ohio 177 (Hamilton Richmond Road / Main
Street), east on Washington Boulevard, and north on Eaton Avenue
/ Eaton Road. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.
Motorists are encouraged
to check the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date
and status changes concerning this closure.
