HANKINS ROAD IMPROVEMENT TO BEGIN AUGUST 7
Liberty and Lemon Townships, City of Monroe

Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens reports that Hankins Road will close for roadway improvements between LeSourdsville West Chester Road and Yankee Road beginning Monday, August 7, 2017. The project involves two culvert replacements and rehabilitation of the pavement, including subgrade repairs and resurfacing. Total project length is approximately 2.75 miles.

"This is a joint effort among Liberty and Lemon Townships, the City of Monroe, and our office," said Wilkens. "We were also able to secure State OPWC funds to help pay for the project." Hankins Road is a township road straddling the Liberty / Lemon Township line but is also partially incorporated by Monroe. The Butler County Engineer's Office coordinated project development and engineering and will oversee the construction phase as well.

BCEO crews will replace the two culverts and pavement rehabilitation will be performed by the John R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati.

All work is scheduled for completion by mid-September, weather permitting.

Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

Hankins Road will close to thru traffic between LeSourdsville West Chester Road and Yankee Road beginning Monday, August 7, 2017. The road is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of September 18, 2017.

During this closure, local access will be maintained for residents of Hankins Road within the construction zone as well as for side streets, including Crossings Boulevard and Roden Park Drive. Residents of these subdivisions however are advised to utilize alternate access into and out their subdivisions in order to minimize as much as possible the amount of traffic within the Hankins Road construction zone.

Detour: Eastbound Hankins Road traffic will detour south on LeSourdsville West Chester Road, east on Kyles Station Road, and north on Yankee Road to Hankins. Westbound traffic will reverse this route. Note: Kyles Station Road, currently closed at Mauds Hughes Road, will be reopened when this detour goes into effect.

Note about culvert replacements: During the two culvert replacements, complete closure at the culverts will be necessary. Local access will be from the east. The first culvert is 400 feet east of LeSourdsville West Chester Road and the second culvert is located 0.2 mile east of LeSourdsville West Chester. Both culverts should be completed within the first week of construction.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this project.
