Butler County Engineer
Dean C. Foster reports that an emergency contract was awarded
this morning for roadway repairs on Millikin Road in Liberty
Township. County Commissioners awarded a contract to the John
R. Jurgensen Company which submitted a low bid of $207,642.
Repairs to various
sections of Millikin Road are necessary due to severe winter
weather damage incurred earlier this month. The worst section
is between LeSourdsville West Chester Road North and LeSourdsville
West Chester Road South, which was closed last Monday when Foster
determined that the road had become so heavily damaged it was
unsafe for motorists. Damage of this type occurs from the winter
elements of freezing and thawing plus road salt. Plowing and
heavy truck traffic also aggravate the problem.
Crews will cut and
re-base several sections of Millikin Road between Ohio 747 and
Yankee Road for the next two to three weeks. Most of the work
will be performed while traffic is maintained; however, the section
near LeSourdsville West Chester Road will remain closed until
repairs are complete.
