Road Closing Notification
to Local Residents and Businesses
June 29, 2010

North B Street - City of Hamilton / St. Clair Township

Note: As a courtesy to local motorists and in the interest of construction site safety, this notice is delivered on BCEO letterhead to all residents and businesses in and near the project area.

This is to inform you that North B Street is tentatively scheduled to close between Gordon Avenue (just north of Black Street) and Lagonda Avenue for a bridge replacement by the Butler County Engineer's Office beginning Tuesday, July 6, 2010.

The Project

This project is necessary to replace an aging and deteriorating bridge with a new, safer structure. The existing bridge, which spans Two Mile Creek, is a steel beam with metal deck structure built in 1907 and rehabilitated in 1940. It will be replaced with a pre-stressed concrete I-beam bridge.

A construction contract for the project was awarded to Armstrong Steel Erectors, Inc. which submitted a low bid of $1,440,209. Funding for the project will consist of State OPWC money, local Butler County funds, and local City of Hamilton funds. All work is slated for completion the week of November 22, 2010, weather permitting.

Detour and Maintenance of Traffic

During this closure, local access to North B Street will be maintained for residents and businesses from either the north or south side of the bridge, depending upon your location, but detours will be posted for all thru traffic. Nearby Combs Park will also be closed during the course of bridge construction.

While the bridge is closed, local automobile traffic will be detoured as follows:

Northbound North B Street traffic will detour west on Rhea Avenue, north on Prytania Avenue, west on Haldimand Avenue, north on Cleveland Avenue, and east on Washington Boulevard. Southbound traffic will detour west on Washington Boulevard, south on Cleveland Avenue, and east on Rhea Avenue.

Truck traffic will be required to use a slightly different route:

Northbound North B Street truck traffic will detour west on Rhea Avenue, north on Eaton Avenue, and east on Washington Boulevard. Southbound truck traffic will reverse this route.

All traffic coming into the City of Hamilton from U.S. 127 and points north are encouraged to stay on U.S. 127 and not utilize Seven Mile Avenue and North B Street through the Village of New Miami.

Emergency personnel, school bus transportation officials, the post office, and the media have been notified of this upcoming closure. The information is also posted on our web site at www.bceo.org/roadclosings.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Who To Contact

While the BCEO makes every effort to keep residents and businesses in a project area informed, we strongly encourage you to check the Road Closings page on our web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this closing. If you have specific questions about the project, please contact BCEO Construction Manager Tom Simpson at the Engineer's Office by phone or email: 785-4134 or simpsont@bceo.org.

Your Safety

The BCEO would like to emphasize the importance of proper safety measures during actual construction. Every precaution will be taken to make the construction site as safe as possible. However, we do ask that you and your family be aware of the potential hazards associated with work areas such as this. Please advise everyone to keep out of the construction sites as much as possible to reduce the risk of accidents.

Your assistance would also be appreciated in reporting any instances of vandalism, including the removal of lights, signs, or barricades. Such acts of vandalism can seriously jeopardize the safety of motorists and pedestrians in the construction area. Please contact our Office or the Butler County Sheriff at 785-1300 or 424-0469 to report any suspected vandalism.

We realize that construction can create some inconveniences and annoyances, but everything possible will be done to keep these to a minimum during this series of projects. Thanks again for your patience.
