Note: As
a courtesy to local motorists and in the interest of construction
site safety, this notice is delivered on BCEO letterhead to all
residents and businesses in and near the project area.
This is to inform you
that the Butler County Engineer's Office is planning to close
River Road for a bridge replacement beginning Monday, June 1,
2009. The River Road Bridge #00.722 is located just east of Burns
Road, or 1,000 feet northeast of Georgetown Road and 1.0 mile
southwest of Lake Circle Drive. Work on the project is expected
to take approximately four months to complete, weather permitting.
During this closure
local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and
emergency vehicles from either the southwest or northeast side
of the bridge project, depending upon your location. Detours
will be posted for all thru traffic. Northeastbound River Road
traffic will detour south on U.S. 27 into Hamilton County, east
on Kemper Road, north on U.S. 127 back into Butler County and
the City of Fairfield, and west on Nilles Road to River Road.
Southwestbound River Road traffic will reverse this route.
Of course, weather
and other factors out of our control may affect the construction
schedule. The best way for local motorists to stay informed is
to check the Road Closings page on our web site at www.bceo.org/roadclosings.
Emergency personnel, school bus transportation officials, the
post office, and the media have been notified of this closing.
We apologize for the
inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
The Project
This project is necessary
to replace an aging and narrow steel pony truss bridge built
in 1959 with a new, wider concrete box beam structure. A construction
contract for the project was awarded to W.G. Stang, LLC of Hamilton
which submitted a low bid of $548,075. A combination of State
OPWC funds, BCEO, and City of Fairfield funds are being utilized
to pay for the project.
Who To Contact
While the BCEO makes
every effort to keep residents and businesses in a project area
informed, we strongly encourage you to check the Road
Closings page on our web site as the best source for possible
date and status changes concerning this closing. If you have
specific questions about the project, please contact BCEO Construction
Manager Tom Simpson at the Engineer's Office by phone or email:
785-4134 or simpsont@bceo.org.
Your Safety
The BCEO would like
to emphasize the importance of proper safety measures during
actual construction. Every precaution will be taken to make the
construction site as safe as possible. However, we do ask that
you and your family be aware of the potential hazards associated
with work areas such as this. Please advise everyone to keep
out of the construction site as much as possible to reduce the
risk of accidents.
Your assistance would
also be appreciated in reporting any instances of vandalism,
including the removal of lights, signs, or barricades. Such acts
of vandalism can seriously jeopardize the safety of motorists
and pedestrians in the construction area. Please contact our
Office or the Butler County Sheriff at 785-1300 or 424-0469 to
report any suspected vandalism.
We realize that construction
can create some inconveniences and annoyances, but everything
possible will be done to keep these to a minimum during this
project. Thanks again for your patience.
