The Butler County Engineer’s Office reports that construction to reconfigure the interchange of S.R. 129 at Liberty Way and I-75 will begin next Monday, May 10, 2021. The two-season project involves the extension of S.R. 129 east to a roundabout at Cox Road, north of Liberty Way. Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens said the installation of the Cox Road roundabout at the end of S.R. 129 will provide a “smoother and safer transition because it eliminates the crisscrossing of I-75 and Liberty Way traffic.” Existing ramp connections will also be reconfigured along with the construction of a new bridge. Additional ramp paving has been included in this project and funded by the state.
Construction crews will start on the west side of the roundabout installation on Cox Road, which will remain open to The Christ Hospital. Bridge and westbound S.R. 129 and northbound I-75 on-ramp work will also occur in that vicinity with minimal construction on S.R. 129 itself. Traffic will be maintained for most of the construction period, especially in the early phases. The Butler County Engineer’s Office will keep the traveling public well informed about the project’s progression for continued safe commuting.
Sunesis Construction, which submitted the low bid of $24,516,510, will perform the S.R. 129/Liberty Way/I-75 Interchange Modification project, funded with federal and local Butler County funds. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed in November 2022.
