BCEO AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)

It is the goal of the Butler County Engineer to provide safe and usable pedestrian facilities for all pedestrians and to assure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and standards.

Title II of The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a comprehensive piece of civil rights legislation prohibiting discrimination and requires local governments to provide persons with disabilities an equal opportunity to benefit and to participate in State and local government programs, services, and activities. The ADA is an “equal opportunity” law for people with disabilities.

The Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way (PROWAG) is a document issued by the United States Access Board for the purpose of providing direction for the design, construction, and alteration of pedestrian facilities in the public right-of-way. The Butler County Engineer’s Office is committed to achieving compliance with these guidelines by way of current and future roadway projects on County jurisdictional roads, as well as access improvement-specific projects hereafter.

To document and monitor the Butler County Engineer’s compliance with Title II of the ADA, the Engineer’s Office has performed a Self-Evaluation and developed a Transition Plan for access in the public road right-of-way.

If you are a resident of Butler County and identify necessary immediate improvements to access in the public road right-of-way, please see the Grievance Procedure and Grievance Form below.
