UPDATE JULY 21, 2023: COX ROAD INTERSECTION IS IN ITS FINAL CONFIGURATION

The Butler County Engineer’s Office reports that construction to widen 0.64 miles along Liberty Way from the west side of the bridge over I-75 to approximately 700 feet east of Veterans Boulevard will begin Monday, June 19, 2023. Improvements include dual left- turn lanes, in both directions, from Liberty Way to Cox Road and a southbound right-turn lane from Cox Road to Liberty Way, and the northbound on-ramp to I-75.  Sidewalks along the north side of Liberty Way will be impacted by the widening and replaced from Cox Road to the eastern terminus of the project. Traffic signals and drainage will also be upgraded in this project, which was designed as Phase 2 of the Liberty Interchange modification to alleviate congestion from Costco and other area traffic.

Due to supply chain delays for traffic poles and other above-ground signal components, the project has a late fall 2023 interim completion date. Temporary traffic signals will be installed during the first two weeks of construction, and on Wednesday, July 5, a three-week construction phase starts on Cox Road. Traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project; motorists can expect single-lane closures from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.  Traffic signal materials are scheduled to be delivered in early 2024, and the improvement should be completed sometime in March.

The Liberty Way Improvement project was awarded to Barrett Paving Materials, Inc., which submitted the low bid of $3,114,080 and is funded federally and by Butler County.
