UPDATE DECEMBER 3, 2021: THE ROUNDABOUT IS OPEN.
The Butler County Engineer’s Office reports that roundabout construction at the intersection of Wayne Madison Road at Trenton Road will begin on Monday, July 19, 2021. In cooperation with the City of Trenton and funded with federal and state funds, the project will include curb and gutter, storm sewer, improved pedestrian facilities, and lighting.
Butler County’s first multi-lane roundabout project was awarded to R.B. Jergens Contractors, Inc., which submitted the low bid of $2,407,635. The roundabout was designed with extra lanes to allow for east-west traffic flow along with added storage during a train event. For additional safety, a traffic detection system will activate special signage to alert drivers not to block the circular travel lane during a train event. Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens noted, “The traveling public has adapted well to the single-lane roundabouts in the county, and I’m confident they will quickly acclimate to a multi-lane roundabout, too.” However, Wilkens asks drivers to exercise patience during the construction period as traffic is routed through this heavily traveled area.
Wayne Madison Road will remain open; however, Trenton Road will close a few weeks into construction until project completion. While local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles up to the project limits during the closure, motorists will not be permitted to pass through the actual construction zone. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed in November 2021.
