The Butler County Engineer’s Office (BCEO), in partnership with the Butler County Storm Water District (BCSWD), and the Butler Soil & Water Conservation District (BSWCD), proudly announces the successful completion of their inaugural Paint the Plow contest. This new community outreach initiative was created to promote public awareness of winter driving safety while engaging local high school students in a fun and creative way.
Students from New Miami High School and Madison High School designed and painted snowplow blades with colorful, safety-focused artwork. These plows will be put to work this winter, clearing snow and ice throughout their local communities. Residents may spot the students’ artwork on county roadways as a reminder to drive carefully and respectfully share the road with snowplows during winter weather.
The painted plows will also be on display at the BCEO’s annual Snowplow ROADeo next Thursday, October 30th, where snowplow operators from area townships and municipalities come together for safety training and participate in friendly competitions, showcasing their maneuvering skills on BCEO grounds in preparation for the upcoming snow season.
“We’re thrilled to launch this new program that allows students to see their artwork serve the community in a meaningful way,” said Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens. “Displaying the painted plows at the ROADeo brings together safety, creativity, and community pride!”
The BCEO will begin this winter season with 13,000 tons of salt stored in two barns, each with a capacity of 6,500 tons. This year, the BCEO awarded its salt contract for the upcoming winter season to Compass Minerals, which submitted a low bid and fixed rate of $96.40 per ton (dumped). BCEO snow fighters will be ready with sixteen snow and ice control routes and two 12-hour shifts of 19 employees to ensure every county road is treated quickly and efficiently to keep motorists safe this winter.
