Shurz Rd Bridge Closing August 31

Road Closures

August 18, 2026

Wayne Township

The Butler County Engineer’s Office reports that Shurz Road will close at the bridge approximately 200 feet north of Mill Road and 1.3 miles south of Gratis Jacksonburg Road, beginning Monday, August 31, 2026. The project will replace the deteriorating bridge that carries Shurz Road over Elk Creek, widen the bridge and roadway approaches, and update the existing guardrail.

The $1.9 million safety improvement, federally funded by the County Engineers Association of Ohio (CEAO) in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and locally by the BCEO, requires closing the road to all through traffic until the end of the year. However, local traffic will have access up to the construction limits.

Construction, performed by Brumbaugh Construction, will continue under traffic in the spring, with project completion expected by early June 2027.

Detour: Northwestbound Shurz Road traffic will detour west on S.R. 744, north on S.R. 503, and east on West Elkton Gifford Road to Greenwood Road. Southeastbound traffic will reverse this route.

Motorists are encouraged to check here and the PROJECTS MAP, as well as Facebook and X @bceonews, for possible date and status changes concerning this and other closures/advisories.
